Designing the CPJ Website & Reports

Consulted with the Committee to Protect Journalists on the creative strategy including the website, reports, and social media.

Overview

The Committee to Protect Journalists is an non profit organization that promotes press freedom worldwide and defends the right of journalists to report the news safely and without fear of reprisal. I consulted on them on creative strategy, including the website, reports, and social media communications. Consulted on design and brand storytelling by visually communicating CPJ’s three pillars of “Awareness, “Advocacy” and Assistance” in a crystalized and simple visually appealing way. Much of this process was finding the message buried inside their data and extensive reports and give their audience a snapshot of their work, whether on the website, newsletter, or social media. Many of my designs and suggestion weren’t yet implemented on the website and digital products, since the process is continuous and iterative.

Website

Redesigned their website homepage to create a snapshot of CPJ’s mission and offerings, seeking to inform audiences about the main problem the org is addressing, the work it is doing, and inspire action with call to actions through advocacy asks, donating, or subscribing. Consulted on user experience design, website architecture, organization, navigation, content tagging, indexing, among other aspects.

User Interface Kit

Created a UI kit, a collection of pre-designed, reusable components and assets that can be used to build and design user interfaces for CPJ’s website, reports, database, and other digital assets.

Reports

Redesigned their reports so it is easier to navigate through, browse and find important sections, visualize data, highlight important sections and quotes, and have a seamless mobile experience.
